This work was inspired by Cornelia Parker's exhibition; she constructed hanging sculptures from found materials-the charred remains of an alleged arson incident. I created a few pieces associated with the subjects of disaster and survival. Charcoal fragments of burned materials were the common theme of my abstract mixed media acrylic collages.
This painting was accented with handmade colored tissue papers and fabric, sand, saw dust and white gesso; soft acrylic gel was used to bind material together.
